Westren reflects on High Altitude Marathon

As part of his on-going initiative to support and raise funds for Kick4Life Academy program, Paul Westren took part in the Lesotho High Altitude Marathon held in Mokhotlong district.

Having lived in Lesotho for more than a year now and being the Kick4Life Academy Head Coach, Westren says climbing and running up the mountains of Lesotho was a wonderful experience. He completed a race of 21km in 02:00:46 and says it was a challenging but exciting experience for him.

“My desire is to contribute towards changing the lives of the young people we have here at Kick4Life. So when my friend from England came all the way to take part in the half marathon, I felt I should join him and probably raise more funds for Kick4Life,”

Knowing he is doing this for the greater course is what keeps him going and he hopes to keep on embarking on initiatives and programs that will assist him in reaching his goal of touching the lives of the participants at Kick4Life. In November 2019, he signed for the New York City Marathon, still with the purpose of generating income for Kick4Life.

While he has also been involved in the London Marathon, Westy, as he is also known, hails the local community in Mokhotlong for their great accommodation to the athletes who take part in the marathon.

“I have done London Marathon and New York Marathon but High Altitude was most challenging. Here we talking of the extremely hilly course and the climatic conditions but the local community were really great, the people were fantastic, they were cheering and motivating us as we ran passed them,” Westren notes.
