After gaining promotion into the senior team last season, Thapo Mohale was named Man of the Match on his debut as he helped Kick4Life clinch a hard fought 2-1 victory against Swallows in the Ecnet Premier League on Saturday at Nyokosoba.
Mohale, aged 17 completed the defence of Kick4Life on the left side and he did well to marshal Teboho Leshoella. Kick4Life came into this match having lost two consecutive games and the technical team, led by Katiso Mojakhomo made some changes, handing both Mohale and Teboho Ramothobi their debuts, while Motlatsi Sebapala and Liteboho Nkune returned to the starting line-up.
Kick4Life had to dig deep, coming from a goal down to clinch victory at the last minute, thanks to Ts’eliso Botsane’s brilliant run with the ball in the box.
Swallows had opened the scorings in the 47th minute after both team teams failed to find the back of the net in the first half, but Paballo Mafeka’s 48th minute header cancelled Motlatsi Ramakau’s goal. Mohale was superb at the back, contesting for the high balls.
Known for his hard tackles, he was applauded by his teammates and the spectators after producing a brilliant tackle to stop the danger at Relebohile Ramahlele in the 74th minute.
After the game, this upcoming youngster with a bright future in his hands thanked the technical team and his teammates for believing in him and said he is ready to help the team do well.
“It was a surprise to me to be in the starting XI, to be honest I didn’t expect it, but I had always been ready. I had been in the XVIII and that gave me confidence that I can do better. It’s a special day to me especially because the coach believed I can come in and help the team to return to its winning ways,” he said.
Mohale joined the development ranks of Kick4Life since 2016 and he worked his way up into the senior team. He was also the captain of the Lesotho U17.
