A first half penalty by Phafa Ts’osane gave Matlama a 1-0 edge over Kick4Life in the Vodacom Premier League on Wednesday afternoon at LCS grounds.
The defeat leaves the Old Europa side in the 8th position on the league table as they go for a short break before resuming the second half of the season next weekend. Coach Motebang Makhetha made two changes in his team, starting with Teboho Montlha ahead of Tanki seoli. Mokoteli Mohapi also returned to the starting XI while Lebohang Tjoloba was rested.
It was a closely contested affair between the two sides who were looking to finish the first half of the season on a high note. Matlama were awarded two set pieces in the 5th and 6th minutes but K4L wall stood their ground to deny them.
However, the visitors took the lead in the 16th minute after Lerotholi Zwane was fouled in the box and Matlama skipper Ts’osane stepped up to open the scorings. Sanele Phantse’s battle with Stephen Ossono upfront continued as the Kick4Life striker outsmarted him to fire straight at the keeper in the 23rd minute. 15minutes before the break, Mongezi Mologovane was gifted with a glorious chance to level the score but he was led down by his touch on the ball.
Makhetha made three changes in the second half, bringing Seoli, Botsane and Molefe to boost his attack in the game. The hosts continued to mount pressure on their visitors and they were nearly rewarded for their efforts in the 57th minute when Botsane found himself in a good space in the box but the Lesotho international missed the target.
Liteboho Mokhehle was called off his territory to collect the ball on Teboho Pita’s feet to stop him from scoring after 73rd minute. Shortly afterwards, Seoli found himself in a good space to earn a point for Kick4Life but he was left disappointed after missing out on the opportunity.
