Two second half goals by Khoanyane Mokoena were enough to see Kick4Life go down as Matlama clinched all the three points in the Econet Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The first half was much impressive as the home side held on and frustrated “Tse Putsoa” who wanted to break the deadlock. Tsepang Ntsenyane was presented with an early chance but he squandered the opportunity in the 2nd minute of the game. A minute later, Jane Thaba-Ntso wasted a chance for Matlama, blasting wide at goals.
However, Thaba-Ntso nearly corrected his mistake in the 8th minute, but his header was dealt with by the woodwork. The recently recalled Motlatsi Sebapala’s brilliance kept Kick4Life in the game as he stopped Lisema Lebokollane’s shot from going in at the 19th minute.
Sanele Phantse had to put in a good fight against Lebokollane and Stephane and the skilful striker nearly won the battle as he found himself facing Matlama’s goalkeeper but john Mohai was quick to close him in the 36th minute. Moments before the break, Khubetsoana Kamela should have punished Matlama who were caught napping, but he missed the chance.
Returning from the break, poor communication nearly resulted in a goal against Matlama but Ntsenyane could not use the opportunity as Monaheng Ramalefane dropped the ball out of his gloves.
Then in the 53rd minute, Thaba-Ntso with a header spotted Mokoena who simply tapped into the net to give Matlama the lead. Coach Katiso Mojakhomo quickly made a change, Nkopane Tabi replacing Teboho Ramothobi in the 56th minute. However, thing got worse when Mokokoane’s cross found Mokoena who scored his second goal in the 58th minute.
An unfortunate incident where Mokokoane collided with Sebapala resulted in the latter having had to be rushed to the hospital in what looked like a fracture after the 65th minute. When the game resumed Mokoteli Mohapi was given a glorious chance in the box but his shot went too high at goals in the 70th minute.
A great combination of Tabi and Kamela in front of Matlama goals saw Sanele Phantse being left disappointed after missing out on what could have resulted in a consolation goal for the home side.
