K4L Ladies secure first major honour

K4L Ladies secure first major honour

A solitary goal by Kefuoe Makoa saw Kick4Life Ladies beat LDF Ladies to win the Women's Super League Cup on Saturday afternoon at Setsoto Stadium. It is the first major honour won by Kick4Life in either men's or women's football.

These two Super League giants met after topping their groups in this pre-season tournament. It was a tightly tactical contested affair but the Old Europa girls got the better of the two sides. LDF won the first free kick of the match but Matabane’s strike went wide at goals in the 12thminute.

LDF then survived an error at the back when Senate Letsie won the ball at Matabane but her pass to Rethabile Akhente was too strong in the 16thminute. Moments later, Palesa Mpeta made a brilliant pass behind the defence but Mosilinyane Lefaphane did well to stop the danger.

Then in the 38thminute, things changed at Setsoto stadium when Makoa found herself on space and pushed through the defence and released a shot, beating Thato Maifo.

LDF came back in the second half looking for an equalizer and they nearly found it in the 52ndminute but Kholu Lebakeng was flagged for an offside. They kept on pushing, calling Lefaphane to produce her heroics keep K4L in the game again by denying Mohlalo a one-on-one in the 65thminute.

With five minutes to play, LDF got a set piece but it was well dealt with as Kick4Life managed to hold on and win their first ever silverware.

Full time: (Makoa 38’) Kick4Life 1-0 LDF
