K4L first African club to sign climate declaration

Kick4Life has become the first football club in Africa to commit to the Sports for Climate Action Declaration, developed by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The commitment involves expressing intent to implement the principles enshrined in the Sports for Climate Action Framework and commit to working collaboratively with others to develop, implement and enhance the climate action agenda in sports.

Kick4Life becomes the 123rd organisation in the world to make the commitment, joining varied bodies and clubs such as the International Olympic Committee, New York Mets, La Liga, Formula 1 and VfL Wolfsburg.

Kick4Life Co-founder Steve Fleming said: "We are pleased to be part of this important movement and hope that we are the first of many football clubs and sports organisations in Africa to come on board. We recognise that climate change is already having a significant impact on health in Lesotho and are currently working to create new climate change education modules that will be a key part of our programming."
