K4L in 50th independence TV debate

Kick4Life representatives Manaleli Mohlomi, Maphoka Ramokoasi, Kamohelo Makateng, Boinehelo Mahase and Relebohile Phate attended the Lesotho 50th Independence Youth dialogue hosted by the Lesotho Televsion’s Thahameso News and Current affairs programme at Manthabiseng Convention Centre on Tuesday 27 September.

Lesotho will be celebrating its 50 years of independence on Tuesday 4th October and celebrations will be carried nationwide.

The young leaders were accompanied by Kick4Life's Ms Maleshoane Mokhathi who joined the panel. Kick4Life was invited due to its significant impact in changing the lives of young Basotho over the last decade.

Discussing the educational issues of the country during its 50 years of independence, Ramokoatsi said youth faced challenges such as a lack of access to job experience immediately after completing their tertiary studies, as they are required to have a certain minimum work experience when applying for jobs. She argued that during their years of study, at least two should be practical as that would enhance their field experience.

Meanwhile Ms. Mokhathi talked about Kick4Life's health education and life-skills which aims to empower youth with confidence and knowledge to achieve healthy and successful futures. She said when participants have completed the curriculum, Kick4Life aims to link them to job placements. “We sit down with them and look at the areas the participants would like to pursue their careers on, and we then find the mentors who will guide them throughout,” she said.
