Mariam Monnapula, a player for Kick4Life’s Junior Women’s team and Academy participant represented Lesotho, alongside other young people from across Africa, at the Regional Child Leadership Conference in Malawi. The event on 16th June – the Day of the African Child – which took place in Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital, was organised by the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
Mariam, 16, hails from Khubetsoana in the Berea District, and is a Grade 11 student at Lesotho High School. She was selected for the opportunity in recognition of her outstanding academic performance and leadership, both on and off the football pitch. In addition to her pace and defensive skill on the field, she is a committed student who regularly attends Kick4Life’s academic tutoring sessions during the week and on weekends.
The conference forms part of a broader initiative to strengthen child participation in public discourse, particularly concerning climate change and the protection of children’s rights, two thematic areas of Kick4Life’s programmatic work.
