Over recent weeks, Kick4Life coaches have been delivering the Girls United curriculum to 32 of the organisation’s staff and volunteers. The objective was to raise awareness of gender rights and promote a deeper understanding of K4L’s gender programming across different departments within the organisation.
Girls United is an interactive sports-based curriculum with sessions on gender rights, sexual and reproductive health, challenging gender discrimination and gender-based violence, and developing key transferable skills. The curriculum includes separate sessions and safe spaces for females and males, as well as mixed gender components, providing opportunities for all participants to work together in identifying and developing solutions that benefit the whole community.
IT & Admin officer, Mr. Mohau Phooko thanked the Programmes team for facilitating the sessions, stating: “It was really fun and insightful and it helped me to deeply understand topics that are normally discussed by females only, like menstrual hygiene.” He added: “It will now be a lot easier to engage in different topics with people outside of Kick4Life, and I am confident that I can contribute towards breaking gender stereotypes in my community.”
