K4L marks World Day of Social Justice

World Day of Social Justice calls on organisations, communities, and individuals to tackle poverty and unemployment, push for gender equality and dismantle all barriers to exclusion linked to gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, or disability. At Kick4Life, this mission is not confined to a day on the calendar, it is embedded in every programme we deliver in Lesotho and beyond.

As a social enterprise and football club dedicated to social change, Kick4Life uses the power of sport to transform lives off the pitch as much as on it. Our initiatives in gender equality for example are evidence of this, and in 2020, we became one of the first top-flight clubs in the world to commit to equal budgets for our women’s and men’s football teams, a tangible demonstration of our belief in gender equity.

Our community initiatives extend well beyond football, however. Through Community programmes like Lesotho United, we educate girls and boys, gender rights, sexual health entrepreneurship and climate change, fostering safe spaces for learning and empowerment. At the heart of our work is life-skills coaching, enhancing academic development and employability training. Our Kick4Life Academy combines these three areas with football coaching, nurturing the confidence and skills young people need to succeed academically, socially, and professionally. In addition, through employer-linked training, including opportunities within our own social enterprises such as the No.7 Restaurant and the Hokahanya Inn & Conference Centre, participants gain real-world experience and pathways toward sustainable livelihoods.

Kick4Life especially champions climate action and youth entrepreneurship through its Sustainability Forum which convenes educators, entrepreneurs, and environmental advocates to strengthen climate awareness and support youth-led green solutions. Programmes like the Climate Enterprise Incubator help young female innovators build sustainable ventures that benefit both community and environment.
Across all Kick4Life programmes, the focus remains on removing barriers and ensuring that every young person, regardless of circumstances have a real chance to thrive. This is social justice in action: empowering individuals and uplifting whole communities.

On this World Day of Social Justice, we celebrate the progress made and renew our commitment to ending poverty and unemployment, and promoting equality, inclusion, and opportunity for all.
