Princess ‘Maseeiso’s powerful impact at K4L

This winter, Kick4Life was privileged to welcome Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Maseeiso Mohato Seeiso as a volunteer sports psychology trainee. HRH Princess ‘Maseeiso, as a Sports Psychology student at the University of Stirling in Scotland, dedicated her university break from 2nd June to 29th July, 2025, not to rest, but to serve. She brought compassion, curiosity, and commitment to every session she held with our players, both in groups and one-on-ones’, proving to be a true inspiration.

What began as a personal journey of exploration became an unforgettable contribution to our players’ growth, both mentally and emotionally. HRH Princess ‘Maseeiso chose to volunteer at Kick4Life not only because of a long-standing family familiarity with the organisation but also because she saw an opportunity to immerse herself in a sporting environment relevant to her studies. Her time with us marked her first real-world experience applying sports psychology, a field she discovered after exploring various career paths in sport, including sports management. Her decision was driven by a desire to raise awareness about mental fitness and its value in athletic performance.

Her approach was nothing short of remarkable. Every individual session with the Kick4Life participants began with intentional curiosity and spending the first few minutes getting to know each player beyond the pitch. This wasn’t just professional training; it was human connection at its most sincere. She listened to their stories, their motivations, and their fears, gently guiding them into conversations about confidence, resilience, and emotional balance. Many of our athletes opened up to her, often revealing deeply personal experiences. These moments became a profound exchange, one that impacted her just as much as it did the players.

What stood out to her most was the players’ unwavering commitment, not only to football and Kick4Life, but also to their education. She was especially moved by the common thread of low self-confidence that emerged in many conversations. She made it her mission to equip our players with the tools to build mental resilience, self-belief, and focus, skills they could carry beyond the field.

The Princess herself acknowledges this experience as a turning point in her development. It was her first time conducting one-on-one sessions, and she embraced it wholeheartedly, discovering not only what sports psychology looks like in practice but also how deeply meaningful and necessary it is. She left having gained confidence in connecting with people, an essential skill she admits she didn’t feel strong in before.

Princess ‘Maseeiso reminded players that mental fitness is just as important as physical training, especially under pressure. She encouraged them to seek help early, manage expectations, and hold on to the joy of the game. Her heartfelt wish to return after graduation and contribute further reflects her deep commitment to uplifting young athletes and advancing sports psychology in Lesotho.

For us at Kick4Life, her presence was more than symbolic, it was transformative. She didn’t merely observe; she participated, contributed, and connected. Her sessions left a visible impact on the players. Reitumetse Namane, a player from our women’s team who had an individual session with Princess ‘Maseeiso, shared: “Meeting and learning from Her Royal Highness was an honour I never dreamed of. Her sessions truly shifted my mindset, especially on the importance of mental health and approaching each game with purpose. She encouraged us to lead by example, both on and off the field.”
