The following article was written by Lineo Mpota, HR Assistant at Kick4Life, as part of our organisational learning journey.
During the second quarter, we embarked on a learning journey centred on one important goal: strengthening the way we communicate with one another.
Guided by the theme “With Clear Communication, We Can Do It”, staff from across the organisation participated in a four-part communications training programme designed to build stronger relationships, improve collaboration, and enhance how we work together.
The programme was facilitated by the Founder of LYFT CIC, Peter Loadman, a qualified life coach and business consultant. His engaging and practical approach encouraged meaningful discussions, active participation, and real-world application of the following concepts covered throughout the series.
Session 1: Communication and Collaboration
The first session explored the foundations of effective communication and the role it plays in successful teamwork. Participants reflected on different communication styles; we discerned our own preferred way of exchanging information, ideas and emotions. In addition, we identified common barriers to effective communication and learned practical strategies for strengthening collaboration within and across teams.
Session 2: Managing Conflict and Difficult Conversations
Conflict is a natural part of any workplace, but how we respond to it makes all the difference. During this session, we role-played challenging work situations, and Peter coached and led the following discussion. Staff gained practical tools to approach difficult conversations with confidence, empathy, and respect while maintaining positive working relationships.
Session 3: Negotiation and Internal Collaboration
The third session focused on building stronger partnerships across the organisation. Staff explored negotiation techniques, collaborative problem-solving, and ways to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes while working toward shared organisational goals.
Session 4: Customer Service
The final session highlighted the importance of delivering excellent service to both internal and external customers. Staff discussed how professionalism, active listening, responsiveness, and clear communication contribute to positive experiences and strengthen our organisational culture.

Positive Impact
The training has already begun making a positive difference in the workplace. Staff have reported noticeable improvements in communication within departments and across teams, leading to stronger collaboration and more effective ways of working.
One of the participants of the training, Thuso Khoarane, shared:
“I have noticed improved communication and better cooperation between departments, and I believe this is because different people and departments were enlightened on the existence of different types of personalities or ways people communicate. This has helped staff to use different approaches based on who they are communicating with and how to tailor the approach and the communication.”
This feedback reflects the program’s objective of creating a workplace where communication is open, respectful, and solutions-focused. As teams continue to apply the skills gained throughout the four sessions, we are seeing stronger relationships, improved collaboration, and a greater sense of shared purpose.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Peter Loadman for facilitating this impactful training programme and to every member of staff who actively participated and embraced the opportunity to learn and grow together.
As we begin the third quarter, we celebrate the progress made and look forward to building on this strong foundation. Together, we have demonstrated that with clear communication, we can do it.
