Balancing goals on and off the pitch: Molefi Kulehile

Molefi Kuzaya Kulehile, 22, from Thabana-Morena in the Mafeteng district, Lesotho, is a driven and disciplined football player whose commitment to learning and self-improvement defines both his football and his life off the pitch: he is both a young, ambitious accountant-in-training and a football coach in the making. His relationship with Kick4Life began in 2016 when he attended the Kick4Life Football Academy trials in the Mohale’s Hoek district, southern Lesotho. He made the final trials in the capital city, Maseru, an experience that, although it didn’t end in selection, instilled a permanent aspiration of being in a football club dedicated to social change.

“I joined Kick4Life in February 2025, fulfilling a dream I had carried for a long time, to wear the Kick4Life badge on my chest,” Molefi says. “I had a call with Kick4Life senior men’s team, Juventude assistant coach Monyane Seeiso, who shared how excited the club was to have me join (just as) as I prepared to (start to) study full-time in Maseru.” With Kick4Life strongly advocating for student-athletes, Molefi did not hesitate to seize the opportunity. He initially joined the club on loan from the Premier League club, Majantja FC, a move that later became a permanent transfer. He made an immediate impact, and since then has scored eight goals, establishing himself as a key member of Juventude, which competes in Lesotho’s national lower division league.

Both on and off the field, Molefi embodies what Kick4Life stands for, balancing football with academics. He recently graduated as a Certified Accounting Technician and is now pursuing his General Accounting qualification. In addition to his studies and playing , Molefi volunteers as a coach for two Kick4Life programmes: the Soccer School, a grassroots initiative for boys and girls aged four to fifteen that develops football skills while supporting academic progress and character development; and the Development Teams which include Under-15’s and Under 17’s squads from the Soccer Schools Programme that serve as source for Kick4Life’s competitive teams. He decided to be more than a player and took an opportunity that would help him gain skills and experiences beyond the pitch, an involvement that has significantly enriched him both personally and professionally.

Through coaching, Molefi says he has developed strong communication skills, confidence in public speaking, and the ability to work with diverse personalities, often delivering sessions in front of parents. The responsibility of being a coach has strengthened his discipline, accountability, and leadership, qualities he carries into his role as a senior player in the Juventude Team. His deeper tactical understanding, improved decision-making, and leadership on the field contributed to his appointment as one of the vice-captains of the senior team by the Head Coach in January 2026. Coach Mukete Mboh explains that Molefi’s character and ability to guide younger players were key factors in his decision, noting that “his discipline in attending training sessions and performing what we want from him was one of the catalysts… we saw that he has developed leadership skills… he’s one of the senior players and his ability to interact with the younger players and teach them properly is important.”

Although he never imagined a career in coaching, Molefi now sees it as a meaningful path after his playing days, one he is already preparing for through hands-on experience. A passionate lover of the game, he envisions himself becoming a professional coach, while simultaneously continuing to pursue his career as an accountant. This dual pathway will provide him with valuable options as he navigates life beyond professional football. As a coach, Molefi is deeply motivated by the vision of seeing his current junior players earn scholarships and access opportunities beyond Lesotho, in the United States or the United Kingdom. For him, their success would be a powerful confirmation that young players’ dreams are real and achievable. He is inspiring the next generation to believe in themselves and pursue pathways in education and football, whether in the United States or elsewhere in the world.

Today, Kick4Life is not just Molefi’s football club: he has claimed it as a space to learn, study, and grow. Between football matches and training sessions with Juventude, he completes accounting assignments, researches university websites, watches games, and connects with his peers overseas under the Scholar-Football Academy (SFA), Kick4Life’s flagship programme that supports participants accessing full student-athlete scholarships at elite international education institutions. Consequently, he learns about life abroad and how he can assist the junior players he coaches in attaining such scholarships. His journey reflects the heart of the mission of Kick4Life: to use football as a platform for education, leadership, and lasting social change for young people.
